U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame Finds Partner for Historic Preservation
Press Release - Jul 20, 2010
The U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame will be the beneficiary of a live auction fund-raiser at Lifeboat Event's DealerCamp later this month.
DealerCamp is a bike industry conference that provides top bicycle dealers and manufacturers an intensive networking and product showcase opportunity. By partnering with the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame, DealerCamp will contribute to the emerging effort of preserving the rich history of the American bicycle industry. “The auction will support the Hall of Fame’s efforts to preserve its collection of American cycling history and honor the country’s greatest cycling athletes” said Richard Bryne, CEO of Speedplay, whose company is spearheading the fund-raising initiative. Attendees to Dealer Camp are asked to donate items for the opening reception and auction on July 29.
“The Hall of Fame has just launched a major effort to preserve and restore thousands of cycling artifacts from its stored collection and move those items into its new, world-class museum facility”, said Joe Herget, Executive Director for the Hall of Fame. “A comprehensive digital archive is also being created so that people from all over the world can enjoy and learn about America’s rich cycling history”.
After recently relocating from New Jersey to Davis, California, the nearly 25 year-old U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame now occupies an 8,000 square foot building in the heart of downtown where its national headquarters and museum reside. The museum’s collection includes a vast array of bicycles, photographs, awards, and other artifacts from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries and its Hall of Fame wing features more than 120 inductees.
The mission of the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame is to preserve the history of American cycling in order to educate people about the past and encourage them to participate in the future of the sport. Encouraging all levels of cycling, the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame promotes cycling development and fitness.
