VICTOR HOPKINS (1904 – 1969)

Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Victor Hopkins started riding in 1921 for the Davenport, Iowa Bicycle Club. In his first season he set a new National Amateur Bicycle League of America worlds record for 5 miles unpaced. In 1924 he won the Olympic road racing trial, and went to the Paris Olympics. Hopkins turned professional after the Olympic for the Chicago international six-day race. In 1925 he took up the glamorous but dangerous motorpace event--pacing behind a motorcycle. He defeated six-time national champion George Chapman and world champion Robert Grassin of France to win the American motorpace championship in 1926. He won more than 70 motorpace races over his career, racing in Germany and France in 1928, 1932 and 1933. He retired in 1934 after 10 years as a pro.
ROBERT PFARR (1920)

Born in Kenosha, WI. Pfarr started racing 1935 and won the Wisconsin Junior State Championship and was Wisconsin State Senior Champion for 20 years. He was a member of the 1951 Pan American Games and a member of the American Good Will Team that race in Japan 1951. Member of the 1959 Pan American Games with a Gold medal in the 4000M Team Pursuit. Member of the 1960 Olympic Team. National Senior ABL of A Champion 1950. 1960 Caribbean Games Guiana Winner Mayor's Cup. Masters 55+ National USCF Track Champion in 1983 and 1984. Has raced for 60 years. Co-founder of the Kenosha Wheelmen Club in 1945 and was their president for 40 years. Lives in Kenosha, WI.
STEVE HEGG (1963)

Steve Hegg was born Dec. 3, 1963 in Dana Point, CA. He was a member of the 1984 and 1996 Olympic Teams. 1984 Individual Pursuit – Gold Medal and a Silver Medal in the Team Pursuit. He won the National Championships in the Time Trial in 1990, 1995 and 1996. He was the National Champion in the Individual Pursuit in 1984. 1989 and 1990. Hegg in 1994 won the National Professional Road Race Championship.
TED ERNST (1932)

Born in Chicago, IL. Ted started racing at the age of 14, competing in over 1000 races. American Professional Track Champion in 1959. Coached international and Olympic caliber athletes and managed World Championship and National Teams. Served on the USCF Board of Directors for 7 years during the 1960’s and 1970’s. USCF licensed race official for many years. He founded the South Bay Wheelmen in 1961 which produced many national caliber athletes and US National Team members. Ernst’s contributions to the industry included the early promotion of reflectorized pedals, using customized components (stems, cranks, etc) to ensure proper bicycle fit and the import/export of European racing bicycles. Promoted cycling at the family/recreation level and top level racer from his bicycle shop in Manhattan Beach, CA.
DAVE CLINTON

Born in Sun Valley, CA Dave Clinton was the First #1 rider in history of the National Bicycle Association (NBA) in 1974. He was the #1 NBA rider in 1975. In 1978 won the Mongoose Grand National winning $1,000 in pro purse money. He was a founding member of the Pro Riders Association in 1974. He was a 3 X Yamaha Gold Cup winner, and holder of the track record a the Los Angeles Coliseum. He was the first rider to be inducted into the ABA’s Hall of Fame. He was the first rider for Diamondback, He helped to launch their BMX program. He currently works with Answer Products in Valencia, CA. |
